Empowering Communities on Handwashing: HopeCore's Impact

Every year, Handwashing Day serves as a vital reminder of the importance of safe drinking water and hygiene in our daily lives. These simple practices play a crucial role in reducing the burden of preventable diseases, particularly among students. At HopeCore, we are committed to prioritizing the health and well-being of communities by promoting proper handwashing and hygiene.

Regular handwashing with soap and water is a fundamental practice that can significantly reduce the risk of preventable diseases. HopeCore recognizes this significance and we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of school children. By distributing soap to partner schools, we complement health education on hygiene, encouraging students to develop the habit of frequent handwashing. Since 2016, we have distributed an impressive 51,219 liters of soap to partner schools in Mwimbi and Muthambi sub-counties. This year, we are proud to expand our WASH program to include Igambang’ombe sub-county.

Proper and frequent handwashing has a direct positive effect on health, especially in reducing diarrheal-related conditions among school children. This not only keeps children healthy but also helps parents save money that would otherwise be spent on medical expenses.

Collaborating with Tharaka Nithi County, we have trained 1,265 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) on water and hygiene in all sub-counties. The CHPs play a pivotal role in ensuring that households have access to handwashing stations. They educate communities about the importance of these stations, thus extending the benefits of proper hand hygiene to homes. Since 2020, an impressive 213,208 households have installed handwashing facilities, further contributing to the promotion of good hygiene.

Thank you for helping us make a difference in the communities that we serve!
