Daniel Ndereba's Life-Changing Economic Transformation

Daniel Ndereba, a 27-year-old resident of Kiraro village, initially relied on borrowed motorbikes as a bodaboda rider and was a member of the Central Bodaboda self-help group, a youth group in the area. Through our Micro Enterprise program, the group received a soft loan of Kshs 60,000 to bolster their table banking activities, with Daniel receiving Kshs 5,000 from this fund. With this capital injection, he constructed a chicken coop and acquired additional eggs for brooding, thereby expanding his poultry farming venture.

After successfully repaying the soft loan within six months, the group progressed to the first funding cycle. During the pre-funding assessment, Daniel's income was recorded at Kshs 18,200. Securing a loan of Kshs 60,000, he invested in an egg incubator and a second-hand motorbike to elevate his operations. Managing this loan diligently for 22 months, Daniel utilized the increased income from selling chicks and his bodaboda business, resulting in a substantial monthly income boost of Kshs 35,300.

Building upon his initial success, Daniel received a subsequent loan of Ksh 100,000 in the second cycle from HopeCore last year. With this funding, he diversified his ventures by purchasing a dairy cow and establishing a zero-grazing facility, venturing into dairy farming alongside his poultry enterprise.

In addition to his poultry and dairy endeavors, Daniel maintains a diverse flock of 40 ornamental birds including Silkie chickens, turkeys, pigeons, Bantam chickens, and geese. These ornamental birds command high prices, with Daniel selling them at an average of Kshs 3,000 per pair and eggs at Kshs 200 each.

Reflecting on his journey, Daniel remarks, "This program has been a game-changer for me. From starting with a dream and a few chickens, I now have a thriving farm and a brighter future. With hard work and support, anything is possible."

Daniel's life has undergone a remarkable transformation since joining our program. From owning a few local breed chickens and borrowing motorbikes, he now operates a flourishing poultry farm with valuable ornamental birds and a dairy cow producing over 18 liters of milk daily. This newfound prosperity has empowered Daniel to start constructing a permanent stone house, marking a significant milestone in his journey toward economic stability and an improved livelihood.
